ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) – Before there was AGP, PCI-E, PCI and even VLB … there was ISA. A computer bus originally designed by IBM in 1981 for the original IBM XT. It was originally 8-bit with a 16-bit version coming later and operating at 8Mhz. Later ISA Plug’n'Play was introducted and normally plagued with many issues which sometimes made the expansion cards harder to configure than the non-PnP. Now the ISA bus has been replaced buy newer and faster technologies (PCI, AGP …) but could still be found on motherboards until recently.
